B-Wing fenced off

This is the first issue of our online construction newsletter. Each Thursday afternoon we will be sending out a weekly construction project status report with information, schedule changes, and links to photos that you can access through our www.onelifejourney.net website. We have also installed a webcam overlooking the Backlick Road Parking Lot so that you can watch our progress from home.

Monday morning Jack Bays Inc., our general contractor, began moving equipment onsite. Fencing was installed surrounding the work area outside the B Wing (Backlick Road parking lot). And construction workers have been walking through the building assessing conditions.

Today demolition of ceiling tiles/grids, lights, doors, carpet, etc. continued. Cabinets and other items being salvaged for future use were removed and stored in an on-site container. Tomorrow (Friday 17 April), prior to starting any demo in the ceiling areas, we will be identifying in-ceiling wiring/systems that must be retained and operated during the construction process. Demo of some walls, un-needed systems and other such items will start next week. From time-to-time, there will be incidental noise issues as walls are removed, concrete slabs are cut, and other similar work takes place.

As of now, there is no access authorized to the Glass Breezeway or “B” Wing areas except for those involved in the project. The present temporary barriers will be replaced with more permanent barriers at the appropriate time. Exit lights, emergency lights, hall lights, smoke detectors, cameras, and other such items have been relocated for temporary use during construction as the demo process continues.

The present plan has the Glass Breezeway remaining intact until June. It will be used for a construction entrance only. Final work on the Breezeway will take place over the summer.

Monday morning our general contractor began moving equipment onsite. Fencing has gone up surrounding the work area outside the B Wing (Backlick Road parking lot). And construction workers have been walking through the building assessing conditions. It won’t be long before we start to see progress. We will be putting updates on this site on Thursdays and will be posting photos to our gallery as they become available.

Construction Begins April 13

Thursday, April 2nd, 2009

During a recent staff informational meeting, Ron Urice, Executive Director of Operations and Special Projects, outlined some of the construction timeline and changes that will be coming soon to Immanuel.

Jack Bays, Inc. (General Contractor) will begin moving equipment and materials to designated areas on the IBC property beginning April 13. Parking outside the Backlick Road Entrance will be reserved for equipment and that area will be fenced off. The Glass Breezeway Entrance will be closed and converted to a Construction Entrance only. During remodeling of the B Wing (Backlick side of Immanuel), entrance to Immanuel Christian School will temporarily be through Entrance 4 (South Parking Lot).

Access between Immanuel Christian School and the church will be through the C Wing hallway that leads past the Shop (Room C117) to the Gym. Senior High students worship at 9:30am in the Gym and VENTURE young adults ministry worship at 11am. Those who have to pass through the Gym to access either the Worship Center or the children’s classrooms or nursery in the C Wing are asked to pass through the Gym quietly during these worship services. Volunteers will be stationed in the corridors to provide information and directions. With parking affected, Immanuel attenders are asked to park at Phillips School and ride the shuttles. Families with small children are directed to park in the South Lot to easily drop off and pick up their children.

See the map above for affected areas. We will provide information, changes, and photos of the construction as they become available. Thanks for your patience as we enter this exciting and challenging time of ministry!
